Breakfast Clubbing #21
W/c Sept 2nd: ON this week in PDX, EDI, BK, EHMPT, CDMX, MIA, LAS, CIN, DTBK, and NYC. Plus Portland ME, LA (East Side), LA (West Side), Milan, London, Paris and more.
Happy Labor Day, (to those who celebrate)
Hope LDW, Notting Hill Carnival or whatever long weekend tradition treated you well. BC updates this week are plenty: Jeff and Jesse started a Whatsapp group for BC Miami (and changed location) , Victoria and Lauren are taking the week off in London, but (the other) Jeff and Kat are is Back in Downtown Brooklyn (and will be weekly on Thursdays going forward). And East Hampton is back in full swing with Mike Kilcoyne.
Elsewhere: Only latecomers to the newsletter may have caught it, but Eastside LA materialized suddenly last Thurs, and BCLA West Side begins in earnest next Friday (9/13). Paris kicks off on Sept 10th. Plus - I’ll be at BC Milan on the 25th. More on all of those soon, but save the dates now.
Speaking of Milan - major domo of BC Milan (not to mention Athens, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brighton and Cannes (just to name the ABCs)m Amy Daroukakis is in NYC this week and will be along to both Brooklyn editions, Weds and Thurs. Amy’s peripatetic lifestyle and curious mind have enabled her to host BC in all these places - and we’ve never even met in person. So Wednesday will be fun. But irrespective of the fun, the simple fact says a lot about what we’re going for; raise a hand, take the leap, reap the stimulation.
The Breakfast Club Esprit de Corps.
Everyone’s invited - especially you. And you can join the group here, too.
Feel free to share, bring friends, colleagues, family, anyone.
No agenda, no required buy-in, no RSVP. And no pitches.
Everyone pays their own way.

Breakfast Club PDX ☕ Tuesday August 27th
Per Scott’s Post:
Week two at the big table here in Portland, with some new friends and the youngest Breakfast Club member to date! Big thanks to Proud Mary for always taking great care of our growing group.
We played a bit of musical chairs, talking about knowing when to let things go, how to get through PNW winters (and how NYC prepares you for them), how to do Vegas right, the hidden gems of the Oregon casino circuit, the joy of lazy rivers (on mushrooms or not), the farm-to-fido dog food movement, developing emotional attachment to pets, the culture shock of moving here from London, starting new chapters as we get older, and building intentional communities around work, project by project. Excellent food and conversation as always.
I learn new things from these folks every time and walk away grateful I could make it. We missed some of our favorite familiar faces but looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. Hopefully you can join us next time!

Breakfast Club Miami Report 8.26.24
Per Jeff’s post:
If padel doesn't come up in conversation, you're not in Miami.
Or so it would seem! This week's Breakfast Club Miami had us talking about how super-social sports like padel (that's padel like "paddle," not "pa—del") are opening new "courts" of attraction and networking. Art of course came up; Basel is just months away. And thinking about case studies: which work best?
This week, we were Daniel Feldstein, Sarween Salih, Danielle Salzedo Jennifer Styles, Avi Jamal, Shawn Kolodny, and Joel Linkewer.

Breakfast Club Report: 8.28.24
The small end-of-summer group allowed for (more or less) one conversation this week. We talked Twisted Tea, the photographers Ellen Stagg and Cheryl Dunn, state of Dimes Square, SUPER SUCKLORD’s Art, Gen-Xs fear of selling out, the art guys interviewing people in a funhouse mirror, the ‘toilet seat’ hairstyle, The Price is Right microphone, 20 questions about the state of the world (as asked by a robot), living upstairs from Time Again, streaming live on YouTube, modulating notifications and moderating discord, making on Midjourney, AdHoc Projects, getting back on Instagram Grid after a long break, THOT enthusiasts, bighouse, starting too early or too late, Halloween with Funkmaster Flex, Snow Strippers, Perfectly Imperfect / PI.FYI, collecting stickers, the foreboding vibe at Sovereign House, the ‘America should be a monarchy guy’ Curtis Yarvin, Adam Devine, the kid from Stranger Things, the movie ‘Omniboat’, the multiplicity of Alex Karp, Peter Thiel’s for-profit city in Honduras, field trips to Mars, seeing Childish Gambino live, whether "Mrs. And Mrs. Smith" was good, palate cleansing TV, ‘Somebody Somewhere’, Le Crocodile Restaurant’s eventized pancakes, skate moms of Brooklyn, picking up surfing in midlife, the myth of midlife crisis, ‘Tai Chi is the move’ as a tee-shirt slogan, queer two-stepping, Stagecoach, hip hop Four Loko, sourapple Buzzballs, becoming ironically obsessed as a marketing strategy and lots more.
The perfect ten this week was Eric Korsh, Heidi Hartwig, Jessi Harris, Chaz Mee, Aike Akhigbe Eric David Johnson aka DJ Bunny Ears, Nick Bodor, Ben Hudson Andrew Courtien and me. But we forgot to take a picture (d'oh) so it's just the illustration (and a photo of a phone).
We do this every Wednesday - come hang sometime. Everyone's invited, especially you.
Breakfast Club CDMX Report 8.28.24!
Per Steve’s Post:
The pleasures of living in the Hudson Valley // the pains of living in the Hudson Valley // refurbishing farm houses in said Hudson Valley // and oh, to go back when you could buy an apartment in Condesa for $120k 😭 // a story about a condo with 12ft ceilings and exposed brick, but also a leaky roof // back injuries! // L4 vertebrae! // why you really should do physical therapy instead of hoping the pain will go away! // slotting AI into creative workflows // how chatGPT set the popular imagination of AI capabilities off in the wrong direction // Co's like Odyssey making editable, "Hollywood-grade" AI video // restaurants! // Michelin-starred restaurants in Mexico! // how the Michelin criteria forces restaurants into the same mold, which is only an upscale version of the instagrammification of dining, what are we even doing here people, laboring as we are in service of a tire company 🛞
Today we were three, including Mark Holthusen and Rodrigo!
We do this every Wednesday 8am @ Lardo. Everybody's invited, especially you!

Kara Peterson, Bryce Brady, and me....
Table topics included the jujitsu competition at the convention center, the roofing business in Seattle, new parks in development with the City of North Las Vegas, vision as a leadership skill, working in water conservation, and growing up in conservative faith traditions: what it's like, what's valuable about it, and what it's like to leave them behind. (We took a deep dive toward the end.)
See you next week ....
