Hi all,
After a big first week, we return to normal course of business this week. Breakfast Club (classic) will happen as it does every Wednesday in Williamsburg.
Recapping last week: The gang was Zaira Stefani Vallejo, Gabrielle Nouhra, Radhika Malhan, Eric David Johnson aka DJ Bunny Ears, Michael Fasciano, Dan Burt, Jose Castillo, Melissa Yuen, James Quinn, Ocean MacAdams, Paul Greenberg, Ian Edgar, Tiffany Zamora, Chaz Mee, Zachary Mallard, Leann Abad, Kathryn (Katie) Stone, Devin Williams, Eric Korsh, Tadzio Dlugolecki, me and John Rough (with a cameo).
At my table we talked the Vera Polling reveal, characters living in the background, college decisions, fruit bracelets, beading seminars for wellness wednesdays, the synecdoche of ‘the brand,’ bad vibes conversations in WhatsApp groups, more ‘anxious generation,’ modeling disagreements, balancing fact and feel, [SIC] Talks (now on Spotify), "Pattern Recognition" (the book), the pitfalls of ‘People Are Saying’, podcasts as simulacra for print, rates of retention by medium of consumption, the steady hum of electricity, AI in the second inning, the rapid progress of Suno and Udio, craft as proof of reality, the evolutionary purpose of art, watch dupes, the archeology of the future, the new (old) Myspace, personal knowledge management, anti-rabbit holes, creative cartography, YouTube as the government (or your parents), the legacy ownership of Flickr, tools in the right hands and different styles of ducks, among lots of other stuff.
Katie added “Don't forget the Zach and Cody nepo baby experience,” to which Leann replied “ Stole my thunder I was gonna mention that… But from what I wrote down we chatted Foxtrot closing, briefly touched on Boisson closing, the broader NA ecosystem and what we’d have done differently, the woes of clientele, fragrance, worldbuilding, Boston, delineations of startups and small businesses, the JOBS Act, and Barbarian (the movie).
Michael chimed in: “Great notes. At my table we discussed the peculiarity of borders, Gen Alpha's enthusiasm (youth obsession?) with skincare and beauty, product marketing benefiting from a brand mindset (and vice versa), the role of music in brand, marketers pitching VCs and how the city of Toronto should authentically position itself to the world.:”
Tiffany sent a shout: “Great company and great conversation! What better way to start the day … and look forward to the next one,” Melissa (in from Toronto) wrote, ‘Thanks for hosting Ben, great way to start the day!’, Eric said “Epic hang. Great convos. New buddies made. Glad I finally got to make it out for it… Solid human-creativity-exchange-and-insights-program. 🌱,” and Ocean (all the way from SF) laughed “I'm still thinking about [Ben]’s exhibit of his "least liked IG photos."
We do it all again this week, and every week. Come hang anytime.
Ben
