Breakfast Clubbing #31
Week of 11.11.24: BC is ON in PDX, Philly, Wmsburg, CDMX, Hamptons, Miami, San Francisco, Vienna, Manhattan, DTBK, Cincy, Vegas, Amsterdam, Jersey, and LA(East)
Hi all,
Greeting from the pre-op holding room at NYU Langone’s orthopedic hospital; I’m getting hip #2 replaced this am. Fully bionic status unlocked after this.
That being the case, I’m attempting to post this entire newsletter from my phone, so excuse the oversights (like, I totally forgot to include BC Melbourne in last weeks dispatch - sorry, Celeste, Josh and Steph! ) and typos (self explanatory). I’m sure I’ll mess up/omit something today too. Make a note in the comments if so and I’ll adjust when the painkillers wear off….
Anyway, Victoria’s post last week stuck with me - she wrote, “I’m not sure of much right now. But one thing I am sure of is that coming together IRL with good people is tonic for the soul. There is so much power in community, conversation and… croissants. 🥐”
That’s the spirit, basically. Thanks for capturing it, Victoria. Next BC London is Thursday 5th December! (and see below for a report on last week’s London pop-up)
Meanwhile, across the North Sea, Sheila in Amsterdam wrote in to report with an update on BC AMS: “After experimenting in the last two times, I decided to
- keep it on Fridays
- run with our current community Shhh for more exposure
The next one will be this friday 15th from 8:30 at Uncommon Bar
(Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 86H)”
And then further East, this Weds sees the debut of BC in Vienna, and closer to home - in Hudson NY. Info below as normal, starting with:

Breakfast Club Reports: Week of 4th November
=====
Breakfast Club Barcelona: Season One, Episode Two. (Showrunner: Ben Dietz)
Kevin wrote: Synopsis. Not all who wander are lost. This month, eleven wanderers spoke about: the election (why, of course), how hard it is to position your own offering versus how easy it is to do it for others, the baller move of ordering fries for breakfast, wondering when parents will stop asking “so, when are you going to move back home?”, the revival of supper clubs, retrieval augmented-generation tools, how AI might already be replacing jobs (language teacher, nutritional advisor, Marie Kondo) and using emojis in physical journals. Much more on the front table too, I'm sure.
Starring: Nicole Ingra, Priya Joi, Kyle Raymond Fitzpatrick, matteo loglio, Ariana Romano, Alessandra Pacheco, Syed Salman Ali, Sidra Salman, Kasia Kaminska (she/her), Kasia Zaniewska.
IMDb Rating: 9.2
And Syed added: Table two: AI — our friendly, slightly unnerving future. We wrestled with the big questions, the subtle biases, and every philosophical twist in between. Is it here to replace us, work with us, or just be that frenemy we can’t quite figure out right now? And, as conversations in the mornings tend to do, it wandered: AI’s quirks, the idea of training it with throwback personalities, maybe even taking it on a little time travel trip. And, of course, all this while Alessandra’s fries stared back at us, hopeful they’ll stay relevant for all the years to come.
Breakfast Club Mexico City Report, Post Election Special 11.6.24!
Per Steve’s post: NOT the election! // Ok, the election // Actually a lot about the election // Also: CDMX's night of museums // Cineteca Nacional // NY living vs CDMX living // the pains and pleasures of architecting content strategies // the challenges of directing actors // interactive museum installations // Syndi Lauper's farewell concert // the humidity of Mérida // how everybody calls the houses in Mérida "colonial" but my brother in christ 20th century homes can't be colonial, I think you mean Spanish- and Moroccan-inspired eclectic // how the Boy Scouts were founded as a pseudo-military organization and the Brownies were focused on domestic chores
Today we were a hungry and opinionated eleven—our biggest breakfast ever!— including Gemma Craven, Mark Holthusen, Maru M. Iglesias, Daniel Meyer, Sarah Clift, Mai Nguyen, Sav, Javier Aceves -baxter-, Flawer, and more!
We do this every Wednesday @ Lardo!
Know someone visiting or living in CDMX? Tag them in the comments, they're always welcome 🤗
Breakfast Club Williamsburg Report 11.6.24
Per my post: At my end we talked about the election (obvs), the weirdo Amazon Brian Williams background, the outlook for Black boys, being into politics, tending toward the negative, being at a loss for words, the prospect of RFK and Elon in actual government, whether any of its real, second and third order effects, voting against your own interests, Fox News Media owning first class screens, being a traditional liberal, the lesser of two evils, Joe Rogan, basking in sunshine cause Andrew Huberman says so, implications for immigrants, tendency toward rage vs toward indifference, maintaining an even keel, studying chi gong, gorgeous omelettes, the power of creativity in problem solving, the plight of rural white America, The Guardian propagating the term ‘chav’, watching the New York Marathon, the Onshoemaking machine, next level sneaker marketing, Yogi brand shoes, the quandary of cushioning versus performance designs, hip replacement, the spirit and connection of running culture. We didn't talk about David Lowery and the lyrics to Cracker's "Get Off This" but they're running through my head today....
