Breakfast Clubbing #32
Week of 11.18.24: BC is ON in PDX, Wmsburg, CDMX, Hamptons, Miami, San Francisco, Manhattan, DTBK, Cincy, Vegas and Jersey
Hi all,
Back to the world. Let me say, if you’ve been holding off on that potentially tranformative medical procedure (or, job change / relationship status update / therapy session, etc), STOP.
Go do the thing. Soooo much better. I’m proof. Back on my feet a week after a total hip replacement (with a little assistance from a cane given to me by BC regular
, no less). You can too. Try it and find out.Apropos: I’ll be back at the table in Williamsburg on Weds. I was bummed to miss the proceedings last week - but I loved BC Melbourne co-host Steph Clarke’s post after joining both Brooklyn editions last week:
“Two breakfast clubs in one week, ft conversations about…
💬 The optimum length and consistency of a chip (fry)
💬 The litmus test for what makes a ‘real’ DJ
💬 The desire for a podcast that talks about infrastructure projects that reach a point where it’s just too hard and everyone gives up
💬 The design decisions and geographic constraints of various cities
💬 Encouraging people to take mass transit
💬 The amount of work required on a project before someone buys the project
💬 Is Ben becoming a human version of The Ship of Theseus (or Trigger’s broom, for the Brits)
💬 How a high salary and a lofty job title don’t correlate to intelligence
💬 How many films you can watch on different length flights
💬 Creating cultural experiences and the balance of brand vs experience
💬 The best music podcasts (and how some podcast content keeps you listening for 200 episodes, even when the hosts are monotone bores)
💬 The most interesting spaces we’ve seen bands in
💬 Finding different ways to describe the work you do
💬 Moving out of the city and the 2-3 year “reckoning” that happens
💬 Ideas that start as jokes until someone makes it real
💬 Opening quirky shops with friends
💬 Losing your travel friends
💬 How finding friends you can travel with is a very hard and special thing
I love that when I come to a city as wild and (in)famously inhospitable as New York, I always know that on a Wednesday and Thursday morning there will be an space at these tables with interesting, curious, funny people who are just there for great conversations with other people.
Ben Dietz, we missed you this week, but the way that these groups happen (all around the world) both with and without you, is such a testament to the ease and intent that is Breakfast Club.
The best.”
Thanks, Steph! Missed you, too. I love the thought of Breakfast Club as a global “no-membership” club where people bounce around freely and find like minds everywhere they go (with Amy Daroukakis as an archetype). To wit. See the very exciting first-time BC Dubai announcement below
Lastly before the events of this week and last - anyone going to Miami Art Week in December? BC Miami is going to have a special edition in conjunction with Scope Art Fair, and out-of-town BC’ers are invited to join. Give
(or me) a shout if so.And this is a perfect throw to:

Breakfast Club Vienna 13.11.24
Per Carla’s Post: We kicked off the Breakfast Club event series in Vienna today, with a lovely crowd and tons of inspiring conversations.
Thanks for joining Sergiu Ardelean, Jörg Fessler, Ioana Carp, Tamara Kramer, Laura M. Pana, Astrid Reiter, Alina Schartner, Patrik Suenwoldt, Jake Moss and Margot Heinrici!!
We started off complaining (as you do in Vienna) about the current slowness in so many businesses, moved on to US election and American culture, Halloween parties, Krampus traditions, community living, parenting, A.I. (taking our jobs), networking events, entering a period of change and how to deal with it, cheese :D and much more.
We'll definitely get together more regularly and the guest list is open. I'll be hosting the December edition and announcing a time and a place here - looking forward to future connections. Everyone's invited, especially you.

Kish Patel Lauren Wallett Hogan L. Lisa Bryan Dustin Beatty Brennen Schlueter Will Abramson Nate Schlimme and anyone who came through that I missed.
Breakfast Club SoMA 11.15.24
Per Evie’s note: “It’s been a wild few weeks for me, but we’ve been enjoying the weekly meet-ups and today’s was a super fun one.
Great turn out, lots of good topics and a lovely diverse group of friendly folk.
We talked about parenting twins, back-to-office mandates, retirement, and “roasting”, Martha Stewart’s doc anyone? We learned that bands of a certain early 2000’s era has an official name (can’t remember it but do remember it was depressing). It was a great morning and folks are enjoying it immensely. Lots of good value.

Talk soon x
That’s it for this week. Come to breakfast. If not this week, another one soon.
Everyone’s invited, especially you!
