Breakfast Clubbing #34
W/c 2nd December. We are ON in Paris, PDX, Wmsburg, CDMX, Hamptons, Miami, San Francisco, London, Cincy, DTBK, Denver, Vegas, Amsterdam & Jersey. And Burlington VT goes live + reports from last week!
Hi all,
Given the short (Thanksgiving) week here in the us, we still managed to pack a lot of breakfast in last week - and there’s even more to come this time. I was struck by Charla’s Post announcing the next BC Milan, which highlighted Five Benefits of Eating Breakfast:
1️⃣ It can boost your energy levels.
2️⃣ It helps elevate your mood.
3️⃣ It can improve your memory.
4️⃣ It can enhance your focus.
5️⃣ It can improve your performance.
As Charla continues:
✨ The most important benefit is sharing breakfast with like-minded people at 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐍. ✨
Join us for a special 🎄 holiday edition 🎄 on 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡, in collaboration with Alessandro Carnicella and 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩, from
𝟗:𝟑𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟏:𝟑𝟎 𝐀𝐌 at Foro Buonaparte 22, Milan.
Stop by, say hi and start your day right by meeting new people and exchanging ideas over ☕️ coffee and a brioche. 🥐 📨 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮.
That’s the idea, Milan or anywhere else - which is why I’m stoked to have the BC family recur (in Paris, London and Amsterdam), debut (in Denver) and announce (in Burlington VT, next Monday), all in this edition - not to mention all the regulars active.
So - if you know somebody who likes people, or eggs, or coffee, or just getting them out of the house, read on. And send em our way!
Ben

Breakfast Club Events Last Week
Breakfast Club PDX – 11.26.2024
Per Scott’s Post: In true BC form we covered a whole lotta topics:
• How so many creatives are now forced to be entrepreneurs and all that goes with that.
• The cycle of fundraising events for private schools and whether or not all that investment is actually worth it.
• What to donate for the school fundraising auction when the options include a Harley Davidson, exotic trips, or... a handmade craft.
• Recent CostCo experiences, including a first time ever.
• How Portland is one of a few blue dots in a mostly red state.
• How some of Oregon wants to become Idaho, while others seek “religious asylum” there.
• Embracing the PNW rain as a feature rather than a flaw.
• The widespread reflex for Portlanders to complain about Portland, and whether it's more prevalent with natives or transplants.
• The polarizing effect of Christmas music and the guide rails for what’s magical and what is repulsive. It got heated.
Folks who were there, what did I miss? Chime in!
We were happy to welcome back our friend JT Griffith (not pictured) who was at our very first Breakfast Club back in Spring, and also happens to be the resident connoisseur of said Christmas music. We also enjoyed the company of steady regulars Brian Mark, shannon holt, Roland Gauthier, Kara Place, Lizy Gershenzon, Jessica Brandes Kingrey, and my co-host Nina Sers.
We do this at Proud Mary on Alberta every Tuesday 9AM and will keep hosting through the holidays.

Per my Post: At my end we talked REI credit cards, ‘do you even mountain, Bro?", doing 75 job interview calls, dealing with stalkers, Friendsgiving aftermaths, DJs at WFMU, YouTube Connect, event coordination, traveling to Antiparos, what constitutes a bad island, hamsters loose on a plane, the inherent chaos of rodentia, the return of snap bracelets, the return of beanies with brims, the confluence of white dreadlocks, Karmaloop in Boston, style trends that are dead forever, black holes, the difference between a beanie, a knit hat and a toboggan, sled varietals, RFKs focus on chemicals, the based RFK constituency, going so far left you end up right, washing black jeans, dyeing clothes at home, breakfast club as an environment of variability, taking a yearlong sabbatical, living in a sad hotel, establishing a modular headshot kiosk, Sophia Coppolla's big fluffy dog, moderation as an art, the writing of Carlo Rovelli, the durability of Carl Sagan, bloody AI people, being reliably unreliable, the next big superfood and lots more.
Today's tight crew was Zaira Stefani Vallejo, Jasmine Takanikos, Kalil Greenberg, Ian Edgar, Nick Bodor, Marissa Dubin, Montana Knudsen, Zachary Mallard, Eva McCloskey, Marc Weissman, Vita Haas and me.

Breakfast Club San Francisco Report 11.27.24
Per Chris’s post: At breakfast club NYC I'd see Ben on his phone and think, is he texting?
But he's not texting. He's taking some of the most extraordinarily detailed and provocative recap notes I have ever read. In that spirit, overheard this week:
Club culture is dead. What brick and mortar would you open in SF right now? A flower shop with pie. European markets. A multimodal space. Bowling Alone. Beauty marketing is the best bullshit—"We found a nut in a forest 1,000 years ago just for your skin." Nonprofit budgeting tip—save a % of grants for upkeep. Sourcing machinery. Bring manufacturing back. Internet dot org. Cultural implications to tech adoption. How do we teach having hard conversations. Open to Debate podcast. Everybody's algo is different. Holochain. Truth in media. House of Beautiful Business. A club where the walls move. Loudspring in Oakland. House of Purple Uni.
If you like stuff like this, drop by. No pitching. Everyone's welcome. Pay your own way.

Breakfast Club Melbourne (Richmond) Recap 29th Nov
Per Steph’s Post: Whilst our American friends are eating turkey rather than toast at the end of this week, Breakfast Club is still breakfast clubbing down under.
Breakfast Club Melbourne (the Richmond edition) happened yesterday. Conversations in my corner of the long table included…
Loneliness cafes for solopreneurs, sleep hygiene, the new recommendations of not journalling at night, tags for showing if you’re up for a chat, book writing, Le Truc office design, being fussy when job hunting, how bold ideas can eventually fade back into the status quo, employee trust programs, cycling on Church St being best avoided, trying to fully automate yourself, the definition of innovation, summer plans, New York highlights, Paris or nothing, fun and weird places to find friends, intentional friendship design, the best events we’ve been to this year, Creative Mornings, Creative Lunch Club, Sofar Sounds, Time Left, brands of matcha, drink making rituals, how everyone is totally cooked this year.
Joined by…
Jess Price, Penelope Barr, Rod Szigeter GAICD (who was not cut from the photo this time), Caitlin Guilfoyle, Breisi Brito GAICD, Rocio Brito, Edel Madden, Gabrielle Hicks, Alicia Cohen, and Mona Fleming.
Final Melbourne Breakfast Club for 2024 is the Fitzroy edition, hosted by Celeste and Josh.
